longcase
Floor-standing pendulum clock
Longcase describes a type of tall, freestanding clock with the works housed in a narrow wooden cabinet, typically six to eight feet high.
A longcase clock stands on the floor rather than sitting on a shelf or mantel.
The style dominated household timekeeping from the late 1600s through the 1800s.
Also called grandfather clock.
