Local unions are the basic organizational units of labor unions, representing workers at a specific workplace, company, or geographic area.
Members of a local union elect their own officers, collect dues, and handle grievances with management directly.
Most locals are chartered by and affiliated with a larger national or international union: She's been a shop steward for her local union for fifteen years.
Often shortened to simply "local": The local voted to authorize a strike.
