regional council
Area governing body
A regional council is a governing body that administers a geographic area larger than a municipality but smaller than a national government.
The term appears in various political systems—New Zealand's regional councils manage environmental and transport planning, while similar bodies exist in parts of Europe and elsewhere.
The regional council voted to expand public transit.
