local referendum
Neighborhood ballot measure
A local referendum is a direct vote by residents of a city, county, or other municipality on a specific issue—a proposed law, bond measure, or policy change.
Unlike general elections for candidates, referendums let voters decide particular questions: The local referendum on the new stadium failed by a narrow margin.
Also called a ballot measure or proposition.
