limen
Perception's starting point
A limen is a threshold—the point at which a stimulus becomes just barely perceptible or produces a psychological effect.
In psychology, the term describes the boundary between what registers consciously and what doesn't: below the limen of awareness.
The adjective forms liminal and subliminal are far more common than the noun itself.
