limas
Succotash legume halves
Limas are lima beans—large, flat, pale green or white legumes with a starchy, slightly buttery flavor.
Named after Lima, Peru, they appear in succotash and as a side dish, often buttered.
Children notoriously dislike them: I had to finish my limas before leaving the table.
Also called butter beans in the American South.
