snap beans
Crisp garden vegetables
Snap beans are green beans harvested young, when the pods are tender enough to snap crisply when bent.
The name distinguishes them from shell beans, which are grown for the mature seeds inside.

Also called string beans, though modern varieties have had the fibrous string bred out.
