lepidopterists
Butterfly and moth experts
Lepidopterists are scientists or enthusiasts who study butterflies and moths, the insects that make up the order Lepidoptera.
The field attracts both professional researchers investigating topics like migration patterns and wing coloration, and dedicated amateurs who collect specimens or photograph species in the wild.
Lepidopterists have documented the decline of monarch butterfly populations over recent decades.
