legislative bills
Laws awaiting approval
Legislative bills are formal proposals for new laws or changes to existing laws, submitted to a legislature for debate and voting.
A bill passes through multiple stages—introduction, committee review, floor debate, and votes in both chambers—before reaching the executive for signature or veto.
Most bills die in committee without ever receiving a vote.
The senator introduced a bill to reform campaign finance laws.
Once signed into law, a bill is no longer called a bill but becomes a statute or act.
