dry cleaning

Waterless garment care

Dry cleaning is a method of cleaning clothes and fabrics using chemical solvents rather than water, which prevents shrinkage and damage to delicate materials.

The term also refers to clothes that have been or need to be cleaned this way: I need to pick up my dry cleaning.

Despite the name, the process isn't entirely dry—garments are immersed in liquid solvent, just not water.
