knee walls
Short attic walls
Knee walls are short walls, typically under four feet tall, that extend from the floor to a sloped ceiling in attic spaces or upper stories.
They create usable vertical surfaces where a roof would otherwise angle down to the floor: We added built-in shelving along the knee wall.
The name comes from their roughly knee-high placement.
