kissing gate
Self-closing pedestrian passage
A kissing gate is a small gate set within a V-shaped or U-shaped enclosure that allows people to pass through one at a time while preventing livestock from escaping.
The gate swings within the enclosure but never fully opens, forcing the person to squeeze past.
Common on British footpaths crossing farmland: We walked through a kissing gate into the meadow.
