kine

Cows, to poets

Kine is an archaic plural of cow.

The word survives mainly in biblical translations and deliberately old-fashioned contexts: Pharaoh dreamed of seven fat kine and seven lean kine.

Outside such settings, cows or cattle are the standard terms.
