kilonewton
Thousand force units
A kilonewton is one thousand newtons—a unit of force in the metric system.
The newton itself measures roughly the force needed to hold an apple against gravity, so a kilonewton equals about 225 pounds of force.
Engineers use kilonewtons for structural loads: The cable has a breaking strength of 50 kilonewtons.
