kangaroo pouch
Marsupial baby pocket
The kangaroo pouch is the external pocket of skin on a female kangaroo's belly where newborn joeys develop after birth.
The infant, born tiny and undeveloped, crawls into the pouch to nurse and grow for several months.
The term extends to any pocket or bag worn at the front of the body: a kangaroo pouch for carrying the baby.
