jerry-rig

Cobble together hastily

Jerry-rig means to construct or repair something in a makeshift, improvised way using whatever materials are at hand: We jerry-rigged a shelter from tarps and branches.

The term blends jury-rig (a nautical term for emergency repairs) with jerry-built (cheaply or shoddily constructed).

Both spellings—jerry-rig and jury-rig—are now used interchangeably for improvised fixes.
