jacking up

Lifting with leverage

Jacking up means raising something with a jack—the mechanical device for lifting heavy loads: He was jacking up the car to change the tire.

Extended uses follow the upward motion: to jack up prices is to increase them sharply, often unreasonably.

In informal speech, jacking up can mean ruining or damaging something: You really jacked up my plans.

To get jacked up is to become excited, agitated, or stimulated by caffeine or other substances.
