jack rabbit
Long-eared hopper
A jackrabbit is a large North American hare with long ears and powerful hind legs built for speed.
Despite the name, it's a hare, not a rabbit—born with fur and open eyes, able to run almost immediately.
Jackrabbits are known for their bounding gait and ability to reach speeds over forty miles per hour.
The name comes from "jackass rabbit," a reference to their donkey-like ears.
