item response theory
Trait-based test analysis
Item response theory is a framework in psychometrics for designing and analyzing tests, questionnaires, and similar instruments that measure abilities or attitudes.
Rather than treating all questions equally, it models the probability that a person will answer each item correctly based on both the individual's ability level and the item's characteristics, such as difficulty and how well it discriminates between high and low performers.
The approach is widely used in standardized testing, including adaptive tests that adjust question difficulty based on previous responses.
