educational assessment
Measuring academic progress
Educational assessment is the process of measuring what students know, can do, or have learned.
It ranges from classroom quizzes to standardized tests, from informal observation to formal examinations.
Assessment may be formative—guiding instruction as learning happens—or summative, evaluating achievement at the end: The educational assessment revealed gaps in reading comprehension.
The term also covers evaluation of programs and institutions themselves.
