isosmotic
Equal solute concentration
Isosmotic describes solutions having equal osmotic pressure—the same concentration of dissolved particles.
When two isosmotic solutions are separated by a membrane, water moves equally in both directions, producing no net flow.
The term appears in biology and medicine: The IV fluid was isosmotic with blood plasma.
Often interchangeable with isotonic, though technically isotonic refers specifically to solutions that don't cause cells to shrink or swell.
