isoelectric focusing
Charge-based protein sorting
Isoelectric focusing is a laboratory technique for separating proteins or other molecules based on their isoelectric point—the pH at which they carry no net electrical charge.
A sample migrates through a gel with a pH gradient under an electric field; each molecule stops moving when it reaches the pH where its charge becomes neutral.
The technique achieves extremely fine resolution, distinguishing proteins that differ by fractions of a pH unit.
