isocenter

Treatment beam intersection

The isocenter is the point in space where multiple beams or axes converge, most commonly in radiation therapy.

Treatment machines rotate around this fixed point, allowing precise targeting of tumors from multiple angles while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue: The tumor was positioned at the isocenter.

The term also appears in imaging and other applications where beams must intersect at a single point.
