indigenisation
Adapting to locale
Indigenisation is the process of adapting something to fit local or native culture, ownership, or control.
The term appears most often in postcolonial contexts—transferring businesses, institutions, or practices from foreign to indigenous hands: the indigenisation of the mining sector.
It also describes modifying imported ideas, technologies, or cultural products to suit local conditions: the indigenisation of Christianity in Africa.
Spelling with -z- (indigenization) is standard in American English.
