mission church
Colonial religious building
A mission church is a church established in a region to spread Christianity, typically in colonial territories or underserved areas.
The term often refers to the distinctive Spanish colonial churches built in the Americas from the 16th through 19th centuries: The old mission church still holds Sunday Mass.
A mission church may also be a satellite congregation of a larger parish, operating with limited resources while developing toward full independence.
