indenturing
Binding into service
Indenturing is binding someone to service through a formal contract called an indenture.
Historically, indentured servants agreed to work for a set period—often years—in exchange for passage to a new country, training, or debt repayment: The practice of indenturing immigrants continued into the nineteenth century.
The term now applies more loosely to any binding obligation.
