imperial throne
Ruler's supreme chair
The imperial throne is the seat of power occupied by an emperor or empress, both the literal chair used in ceremonies and the position of supreme authority it represents.
To ascend the imperial throne is to become emperor; to abdicate the imperial throne is to give up that power.
The phrase evokes grandeur and absolute rule: He spent decades maneuvering to place his son on the imperial throne.
