impeachments

Formal removal proceedings

Impeachments is the plural of impeachment—formal accusations brought against a public official for misconduct in office.

In the United States, the House of Representatives votes on impeachment; the Senate then conducts a trial.

Impeachment does not mean removal from office, only the bringing of charges: Two presidential impeachments have resulted in acquittal.
