hypergiant
Immense luminous star
A hypergiant is one of the largest and most luminous types of stars in the universe, significantly more massive and brighter than ordinary giants or even supergiants.
These rare stellar behemoths can be hundreds or thousands of times the radius of the Sun and millions of times more luminous.
Hypergiants are unstable and short-lived by stellar standards, often losing mass rapidly through powerful stellar winds.
Eta Carinae is among the most studied hypergiants in our galaxy.
