human smuggling
Illicit people transport
Human smuggling is the illegal transportation of people across borders, typically for profit.
Unlike human trafficking, smuggling implies the migrants' consent—they pay smugglers to help them enter countries where legal entry is unavailable or impractical.
The relationship theoretically ends at the destination, though smuggled persons often face exploitation, abandonment, or death during dangerous crossings: The boat capsized, killing dozens who had paid smugglers thousands each.
