housing cooperative
Member-owned residential building
A housing cooperative is a residential arrangement where occupants collectively own the building or complex rather than individual units.
Members purchase shares in the cooperative corporation, which entitles them to occupy a specific unit: She bought into a housing cooperative in Brooklyn.
Unlike condominiums, residents don't hold title to their apartments—they own stock and a proprietary lease.
Often shortened to co-op or housing co-op.
