hit marker
Damage feedback signal
A hit marker is a visual or audio indicator in video games confirming that your shot connected with an enemy.
The term comes from first-person shooters, where a small crosshair flash or sound cue lets you know you've landed a hit: I heard the hit marker but he didn't go down.
Outside gaming, hit marker sometimes describes any confirmation that an action had its intended effect.
