highway merging
Entering main traffic
Highway merging is the act of entering a highway from an on-ramp by accelerating to match traffic speed and finding a gap between vehicles.
The maneuver requires timing and spatial judgment—merging too slowly or hesitantly causes problems for both the merging driver and existing traffic.
Traffic backed up because drivers couldn't merge smoothly.
