pulling off

Managing to achieve

Pulling off has two main senses.

The first is physical removal—peeling or stripping something away: She pulled off her gloves.

The second, more common in casual speech, means successfully accomplishing something difficult or unlikely: I can't believe we pulled off the heist, He somehow pulled off a last-minute victory.

This sense implies defying expectations.
