Off-ball protective positioning
Help defense is a basketball strategy where a defender leaves their assigned player to assist a teammate who has been beaten or is guarding a driving opponent.
The helping defender rotates to stop the ball while other teammates shift to cover the now-open player.
Good help defense requires constant communication and awareness: The center's help defense at the rim changed the entire game.
