heald

Warp thread guide

A heald is a part of a loom consisting of a frame or set of cords through which warp threads are passed, allowing them to be raised or lowered to create the shed through which the shuttle carries the weft.

Also called a heddle, healds work in groups controlled by foot pedals or mechanical action to produce different weave patterns.

The weaver adjusted the healds to create a twill pattern.
