heaven and hell
Paradise and damnation
Heaven and hell names a pairing of ultimate destinations or states—one of bliss, one of torment.
The phrase often describes extremes of experience: We went through heaven and hell to get here.
It suggests the full range of possibility, opposite ends joined: That relationship was heaven and hell.
Sometimes used for dramatic emphasis about intensity rather than actual contrast.
