heat sensing
Perceiving thermal radiation
Heat sensing is the ability to detect thermal radiation or temperature differences.
Some animals—notably pit vipers and certain insects—have specialized organs for heat sensing that allow them to locate warm-blooded prey in darkness.
The term also applies to technological detection: heat-sensing cameras, heat-sensing missiles.
As an adjective, usually hyphenated: heat-sensing equipment.
