head nurse
Unit nursing chief
A head nurse is the nurse in charge of a hospital ward or unit, responsible for supervising other nursing staff and coordinating patient care.
The title has largely given way to more formal designations like nurse manager or charge nurse, though head nurse remains common in everyday speech: The head nurse assigned me to the pediatric floor.
