bed check

Nighttime head count

A bed check is a verification that someone is in bed when they're supposed to be—done by staff in military barracks, dormitories, hospitals, or similar institutions: The sergeant does bed check at 2200 hours.

Parents might also do bed checks on children to ensure they haven't snuck out.
