hardwood timber
Oak or mahogany
Hardwood timber is wood from broad-leaved deciduous trees—oak, maple, walnut, cherry—as opposed to softwood from conifers.
The term refers both to the raw material and to lumber processed from it.
Hardwoods are prized for furniture, flooring, and cabinetry because of their density, durability, and grain patterns: The contractor specified hardwood timber for the staircase.
