hardhats
Site safety equipment
Hardhats are protective helmets worn on construction sites and in industrial settings, typically made of rigid plastic.
The term extends to the workers who wear them—construction workers, miners, factory workers.
In the 1970s, hardhat became associated with blue-collar political conservatism after New York construction workers clashed with antiwar protesters: The hardhats supported Nixon.
