hand tap
Manual thread cutter
A hand tap is a tool for cutting internal threads in a hole, turned manually with a wrench or tap handle rather than by machine.
Hand taps come in sets of three—taper, plug, and bottoming—each cutting progressively deeper threads.
Use the taper tap first to start the threads, then follow with the plug tap.
