hand-drawn animation
Manually illustrated motion
Hand-drawn animation is the traditional technique of creating moving images by drawing each frame individually, typically on paper or celluloid sheets.
Each drawing differs slightly from the last, so that when played in rapid sequence, the images appear to move.
The method dominated animation from the early 1900s through the 1990s, when computer-generated animation began to replace it.
Also called traditional animation or cel animation.
The studio returned to hand-drawn animation for a nostalgic feel.
