half rhyme
Imperfect poetic echo
Half rhyme is rhyme where the consonant sounds match but the vowels differ: love/have, eyes/light, grown/moon.
Also called slant rhyme or near rhyme.
Poets use half rhyme to create subtler sonic effects than perfect rhyme, or to avoid forced-sounding word choices.
Emily Dickinson employed it extensively.
