half-rhyme
Imperfect sonic echo
Half-rhyme is a near-miss in rhyming—words that share some sounds but don't fully match.
The consonants may align while vowels differ (years/yours, parable/shell), or the stressed vowels match but endings diverge (lady/baby vs.
lady/maybe).
Poets use half-rhyme for subtler music than perfect rhyme provides, or when exact matches feel forced.
Also called slant rhyme or near rhyme.
