ground rod
Lightning path stake
A ground rod is a metal rod driven into the earth to provide an electrical connection to the ground.
It's a safety component in electrical systems, directing stray current or lightning strikes harmlessly into the soil rather than through buildings or people: The electrician drove an eight-foot ground rod beside the panel.
Also called a grounding rod or earth rod.
