ground rent

Lease land payment

Ground rent is a periodic payment made by someone who owns a building but not the land beneath it.

Common in leasehold property arrangements, especially in Britain, where a landowner retains ownership of the ground while another party owns the structure: The flat costs £200,000 plus £300 annual ground rent.

The arrangement can last decades or centuries.
