grayest

Least bright shade

Grayest is the superlative of gray—the most gray.

It describes whatever has the least color saturation or the most neutral tone among things compared: the grayest skies I've ever seen, the grayest days of winter.

Figuratively, it marks the dullest or most ambiguous: This is the grayest area of the law.
