granddam
Old breeding female
Granddam is an archaic or literary term for a grandmother, or more broadly, an elderly woman.
In animal husbandry, particularly horse and cattle breeding, a granddam is the female parent of an animal's sire or dam—its grandmother: The foal's granddam was a champion racer.
The word combines grand with dam, the term for a female parent in livestock.
